The New Cambridge Aero Club Website is now RSS enabled!

What on Earth is RSS I hear you ask? Well, the letters stand for 'Really Simple Syndication' and put very simply, it enables your web browser to go looking for updates from any subscribed website and download them to your computer without you having to do anything. Then, to read that content, all you have to do is click on the RSS button on your browser and the content will be displayed. You can customise the way in which your browser collects and displays this information too.

So... If you want to keep up to date with our NEWS section but without having to open up the site each time... this is for you!

For a more technical and in-depth explaination, have a look at this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS

Congratulations Roman Starkov

Today, Roman flew his first sortie from the back seat of the Extra 200 after very few familiarisation flights in the front. Roman flew the aircraft with precision and confidence which suggests that his first Extra 200 solo will not be long in coming! Roman is one more of many PPLs with relatively few hours of total experience who has demonstrated that you don’t need to be a highly experienced flyer to master an unlimited high performance aircraft. Roman’s achievement will hopefully serve as an inspiration for more future and present pilots alike… Keep up the excellent work Roman!

Aerobatic Competitions - Will you compete?

Last summer, some of our members did us proud and took the top five and 7th & 8th places in the LOOP beginner's competition at Little Gransden. This was such an exciting day that we will be doing it again this year! The competiton date will be 19th June, anyone can enter because the whole day is geared towards pilots with little or no real experience of aerobatics. Indeed, most people can put in a respectable performance with just a very limited amount of training. The event is geared towards pilots with any level of total flying experience and an interest in aerobatics. Everything you on the day will be with your instructor who will be responsible for the flight. All you have to do is the flying!

If there is the demand, we are also hoping that some of last years 'Beginners' competitors will choose to enter the next level up at 'Standard' this year. If so, we will of course be delighted to organise it. This years event at 'Standard' level will take place in early August at Conington Airfield.

We would be delighted to hear from anyone who thinks thay might be interested in taking part in either day. Get in touch with Luke Hall!

Extra 200 Cockpit Refurbishment

Plans to refurbish our Extra 200 cockpit will go ahead at the next 50 hour inspection. During the refit, the seats will be upholstered in leather and the internal grey 'crackle' finish will be renewed. The overall effect will be a far more comfortable place to sit and a return to the 'new' feel. The work will only take a few days and should not have a significant impact on overall availability. We hope you enjoy it!

New Airbox airspace avoidance system

This is a new and inexpensive system designed to make airspace and obstacle collision avoidance much easier for the GA pilot. Please have a look at the Youtube link here for some more details. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uv2WAFSnhug

We are investigating the possibility of purchasing a small number of units for club members to use inconjunction with aircraft hire for a very small fee.

Welcome to our new website!

Hello group members!
Well, it's been a long time coming but I am thrilled to announce that the new website is finally here!

It has been a long project and those of you who haven't had the pleasure of being involved in such a task are probably wondering why on Earth it should take so long?! I’ll try to explain a little… The new site has been designed from zero upwards. Everything about the site is bespoke and has been ‘coded’ from scratch. The overall design process is very time consuming because it involves designing, changing, testing, then doing it all again, over and over until it all fits together and works as a whole unit. Most of the text content is new, which takes a long time to write! We have used some of the excellent original photographic work provided by Keith Wilson, along with lots of new content. The site is by no means finished. During the next few months we will be adding more features and functions. Meanwhile, the ‘News’ section will be updated regularly with pictures and items of interest, so be sure to check it regularly.

A few typos and minor mistakes are bound to have slipped through the net, so if you spot any please let me know! The webcam feed is running but I suspect that a little water and snow may have found its way into the camera, which means the picture is pretty rubbish right now. Fear not though… A new and rather more expensive camera is on its way and should be installed very soon! New videos will also be appearing very soon in addition to more useful document downloads.

Overall, I hope you’ll agree that the site is a huge improvement on the old one and will give other sites a good run for their money!
